NEITHER WAS THEIR PLACE FOUND ANY MORE IN HEAVEN! NO LONGER ANY PLACE IN HEAVEN! NO LONGER ANY PLACE IN HEAVEN! WHEN THE ADVERSARY IS DISPLACED FROM HEAVEN & DISPLACED FROM THE EARTH! CASTING THE ADVERSARY OUT OF HEAVEN ONCE AND FOR ALL! CASTING THE ADVERSARY OUT OF THE EARTH ONCE AND FOR ALL! THE DISPLACEMENT OF THE ADVERSARY IN HEAVEN STANDS AS THE PRECURSOR AND PRELUDE FOR HIS DISPLACEMENT IN THE EARTH! The more I read this particular chapter in the prophetic book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ, the more I am completely consumed and enamored by the tremendous impact and significance it carries. As I have stated before, the twelfth chapter of the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ seems to mark a very significant transition in the realm of spiritual warfare and conflict. Within the twelfth chapter we find the conflict not beginning or starting against flesh and blood—against the nation and people of Israel, or even against the saints of God. Furthermore, the conflict we are introduced to in the twelfth chapter didn’t even begin or originate in the earth—rather it was introduced in heaven. The conflict we read about in the twelfth chapter of the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ is a conflict that first begins and is found in heaven and is fought against Michael and his angels. The twelfth chapter of the book of the Revelation not only marks a transition in the location and focal point of the conflict, but also marks the target of the conflict as well. Within this chapter we find war in heaven as the dragon and his angels fought against Michael and his angels, yet being unable to prevail against them. The apostle John writes that the dragon and his angels fought in heaven against Michael and his angels, yet not only were they unable to prevail against Michael and his angels, but their place was found no longer in heaven. As a result of their inability to prevail, and their place no longer being found in heaven, the dragon and his angels were cast out of heaven, and cast into the earth. Being unable to prevail and no longer having or finding any place in heaven the only viable option that remained was for the dragon and his angels to be cast out. In essence, it wasn’t enough for the dragon and his angels to be unable to prevail, or for their place to no longer be found in heaven. If the dragon and his angels stand defeated and overcome in heaven, and if their place is no longer found there, there is in essence only one option left—being cast out.
One of the most important realities we must understand concerning this is that when the dragon was cast out and cast into the earth that meant the accuser of the brethren was cast down as well. WHEN THE DRAGON IS CAST OUT THE ACCUSER IS CAST DOWN. The dragon and his angels attempted to fight against Michael and his angels in heaven, yet could not prevail and were cast down. The dragon and his angels sought to make their dwelling in heaven, yet the time came when their place was no longer found in heaven, and they were cast down. UNABLE TO DWELL IN HEAVEN & UNABLE TO PREVAIL IN HEAVEN. This particular chapter found within the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ is absolutely and incredibly astounding, for it reveals the very real and powerful truth that the dragon stands to be defeated in heaven—and not only defeated in heaven, but also cast down out of heaven. It’s worth noting and pointing out when reading this chapter that when speaking of the accuser of our brethren being cast down, those whom he sought and set out to accuse overcame him. How did they overcome him though? The apostle John writes how they overcame the accuser of our brethren by the blood of the Lamb, by the word of their testimony, and that they loved not their lives unto the death. I still find it absolutely and utterly amazing that the dragon sought to make war in heaven against Michael and his angels, yet could not prevail against them. As a result of his being unable to prevail against Michael and his angels the dragon and his angels were cast to the earth. What is so incredibly powerful about the dragon’s being cast to the earth is that when the apostle John heard the loud voice speaking from heaven he heard how the accuser of the brethren had been cast down, and how the accuser of the brethren was overcome. The accuser of the brethren was overcome by those whom he sought to accuse by the blood of the Lamb, by the word of their testimony, and by those who loved not their lives unto the death. CAST DOWN & OVERCOME! When the adversary and accuser was cast out of heaven and cast down into the earth he was not only cast down, but he was also cast down and overcome. What an incredibly powerful truth this truly is when you take the time to consider it, for although the accuser had been cast down from and out of the place he stood to accuse the saints of God, the accuser himself stands overcome by the saints of God.
WHEN THE ACCUSER STANDS OVERCOME IN THE EARTH! When we read of the accuser of the brethren being overcome by the blood of the Lamb, by the word of their testimony, and how the saints loving not their lives unto the death, it is important that we understand this as being directly connected to the earth. The accuser of the brethren was not overcome in heaven by the saints of God who have died and are presently with the Lord in paradise. When the apostle John writes and speaks of the accuser being overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, it speaks to and directly applies to those saints who dwell upon the earth. The apostle John watched as the dragon fought in heaven yet could not prevail, but the apostle John also heard how the dragon—the accuser of our brethren—was overcome by the saints of God according to the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. It’s important that we pay attention to the phrase “by the blood of the Lamb,” for this reference directly applies to the New Covenant. The phrase “by the blood of the Lamb” applies to the work of Christ upon the cross of Calvary nearly two thousand years ago when He shed His blood as the Lamb of God which takes away the sins of the world. The phrase “by the blood of the Lamb” directly applies to the finished work of Jesus Christ upon the cross of Calvary, which stands as perhaps our single greatest weapon to overcome any and every accusation, judgment and condemnation thrown at us by the accuser. The apostle John hears the loud voice proclaiming the saints of God overcoming the accuser of the brethren by the blood of the Lamb, which stands to speak of their faith, their trust and their confidence in the finished work of Jesus upon the cross. It is this blood of the Lamb which they themselves have washed their garments in, thus making them clean and white as snow. The two greatest weapons used to overcome the accuser of the brethren is the blood of the Lamb which speaks of the finished work of Jesus Christ upon the cross of Calvary, and the word of our testimony which speaks of how we appropriated that work. When Jesus took upon Himself the likeness of men and destroyed the work of the devil upon the cross He also afforded us the ability to overcome the accuser of our brethren within the earth, thus revealing that the not only is the great dragon overcome and defeated in heaven, but he also stands to be overcome in the earth.
I absolutely love reading the twelfth and twentieth chapters of the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ together, for both chapters paint an incredibly powerful picture of the ultimate outcome of spiritual conflict and warfare. In the twelfth chapter we encounter the great dragon making war with his angels against Michael and his angels, yet being unable to prevail. As a result of the dragon being unable to prevail in heaven their place was no longer found in heaven, thus leaving them displaced. The great dragon along with his angels were cast out of heaven into the earth for their place was no longer found in heaven. The great dragon and his angels could no longer remain in heaven because they were unable to prevail against the heavenly host led by Michael, and because their place was no longer found among them. Both saints of God and angelic host alike were called to rejoice greatly after the accuser of the brethren had been cast into the earth, for the adversary no longer had any access in the heavenly realm. The adversary and his demonic horde no longer had any authority or power in heaven after they had been violently and furiously cast forth by Michael and the angelic host. WHEN THE ADVERSARY LOSES HIS PLACE IN HEAVEN! WHEN THE ADVERSARY NO LONGER HAS ANY AUTHORITY IN HEAVEN! It is an absolutely marvelous and wonderful thought to think that there is coming a point in history when the dragon and his angels will no longer have or find any place in heaven, thus limiting the scope of the authority and power they believed themselves to have. The twelfth chapter of the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ provides great hope and encouragement for our hearts and souls for it reveals the glorious truth that the adversary, the deceiver, the accuser, the ancient serpent, which is called the Devil and Satan loses his authority and his place in heaven. There is coming a time when the accuser of our brethren will no longer be able to remain in heaven with his angels, and will be violently and furiously cast to the earth—a reality which depicts and points to their ultimate demise and destruction.
WHEN THE ADVERSARY IS CAST OUT INTO THE EARTH IT IS A SIGN AND PORTENT OF BEING CAST INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE! What I find to be so incredibly magnificent about the twelfth and twentieth chapters of the book of the Revelation is that the twelfth chapter speaks to the reality of the adversary no longer having any place in heaven, while the twentieth chapter speaks to the reality of the adversary no longer having any place in earth. What happens when you have lost your place in heaven and are unable to prevail? The apostle John records of the adversary that when this becomes a reality, both he and his angels will be cast out and cast down into the earth. What happens when you have lost your place in the earth as well? The apostle John also witnesses this great and glorious truth, for there is coming a day when the adversary no longer has a place upon the earth itself. When the dragon was cast out of heaven and cast into the earth, he was still able to unleash his wrath and war against the woman and against her offspring. When the dragon was cast into the bottomless pit he was prohibited from deceiving the nations for a full one thousand years. When the thousand years were completed, however, the dragon was released from his prison and immediately went out to deceive the nations—Gog and Magog—to incite them to engage in one final cosmic showdown against the saints and Son of God. This final showdown against the saints and Son of God as the dragon and his tremendous horde surround the beloved city ends with fire coming down from heaven and utterly consuming all those who dared march against the saints and Son of God. The saints and Son of God just completed one thousand years of ruling and reigning upon the earth—exercising the dominion and authority which Adam was formed from the dust of the earth and created to exercise. Having been released from his prison, however, the dragon will himself go out to deceive the nations—to the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog—to incite them to march against the beloved city in the midst of the land. The apostle John, however, witnesses the dragon’s final destruction as taking place immediately after he makes an attempt to march against the saints and Son of God.
It’s worth mentioning and pointing out that when the dragon is finally and ultimately defeated, he is not defeated in heaven, but is defeated in the earth. The dragon was indeed defeated in heaven as neither he nor his angels could prevail against Michael and the angelic host, but that was not his final defeat. It is utterly amazing to consider the fact that the adversary’s defeat in heaven only served as a portent and sign pointing to his ultimate and final defeat—a defeat that would not take place in heaven itself, but upon the earth. I have often found it interesting that the Lord of hosts would choose the location of the adversary’s final defeat and destruction to be upon the earth which he spent several millennia seeking to corrupt, pollute and destroy. The adversary’s greatest and final defeat will take place not in heaven among or against the angelic host, but upon the earth as he marches against the beloved city with a horde as enumerable as the sand upon the shore. When the dragon is released from his prison he does indeed go out to deceive all the nations in the earth to bring them in battle against the saints and Son of God, yet the apostle John records the dragon as being unable to prevail upon the earth, and is thus cast into the lake of fire. When the dragon and his angels were unable to prevail in heaven, and when their place was no longer found there, they were cast into the earth. When, however, the dragon and his forces were unable to prevail in the earth, and when there was no longer any place [or even any time] for them, they were cast into the lake of fire. The book of the Revelation not only brings us face to face with the reality that the dragon and his angels will no longer have any place in heaven, but there is coming a day when the dragon and his legions will no longer have any place even in the earth. The book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ brings us face to face with the powerful truth that the dragon not only stands to be displaced from heaven itself, but he also stands to be displaced from the earth as well. There is coming a day when both heaven and earth will be released from the presence of the adversary, as his being cast into the earth is but a portent for his being cast into the lake of fire. There is coming a day when the beast, the false prophet, death, hell, the grave, and even the dragon himself will be cast into the lake of fire—completely and totally unable to wreak any more havoc upon the face of the earth. When the dragon is cast out of heaven into the earth he is no longer able to accuse the saints of God before the throne of God, and when the dragon is cast from the earth and into the lake of fire he will no longer be able to deceive the nations.
It is absolutely wonderful to know that there is coming a point in time when our adversary—the ancient serpent which is called the Devil and Satan—will not only be displaced from heaven itself, but will also be displaced from earth as well. There is coming a point in time when the great dragon will no longer be welcome in heaven or on the earth. This may be one of the single greatest reasons why the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ speaks of the creation of a new heavens and a new earth—neither of which will have ever been tainted, much less touched by sin, death, or the adversary. WHEN THE ADVERSARY IS NO LONGER WELCOME IN HEAVEN! WHEN THE ADVERSARY IS NO LONGER WELCOME IN THE EARTH! In all reality, the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ can be summarized—especially the ultimate conclusion of the book—as the triumph and ultimate victory of the Lamb and the throne. Directly linked and connected to this reality is the conclusion that the adversary is not only driven out of heaven once and for all, but the adversary is also driven once and for all out of the earth. The book of the Revelation reveals that there is a moment when the adversary will no longer be able to prevail in heaven, nor will have any place in heaven, thus leading to his ultimate expulsion and defeat. When speaking of the ultimate demise and destruction of the adversary it is imperative that we understand that this destruction does not begin in the earth but in heaven. It is the dragon’s defeat in heaven that sets in motion his wrath and rage upon the earth which ultimately and inevitably leads to his destruction. The dragon’s defeat in the book of the Revelation begins in heaven when he is first displaced from the midst of it—a reality which indicates how true victory and triumph over the adversary is completed and fulfilled. True victory and defeat of the adversary begins when he is displaced from heaven and is then defeated and driven forth from the earth. In other words, true victory over the dragon and adversary begins in the spiritual and unseen realm and then transitions to the visible, physical and natural realm.
Do you want to truly understand how victory and triumph is obtained over the adversary within your life? This victory and triumph begins when the adversary is once and for all unable to prevail, and no longer has any place within your heart, your mind or your life. True victory and triumph over the adversary continues when the adversary is displaced, driven out, and cast down from heaven—from the unseen and spiritual realm within your life. When the adversary is driven out and displaced from that unseen realm within our lives—our hearts, our minds, our souls—victory and triumph begins to take place. It is imperative that we recognize and understand that this victory cannot and does not begin without and apart from the dragon being unable to prevail and no longer having that place which he once had. WHEN THE ADVERSARY CAN NO LONGER OCCUPY THAT PLACE HE ONCE OCCUPIED! This is essentially what is so powerful and marvelous about Jesus’ casting forth of the evil and unclean spirits which took possession of those men, women and children he encountered. When He drove forth and cast out those evil and unclean spirits, they were never permitted to have access or entrance into the lives of those they once had access. Victory and triumph over the adversary begins when the adversary is driven out and cast forth as a result of any future and further access being denied within our lives. When the great dragon and his angels were cast forth out of heaven and cast into the earth their access from that moment on was both denied and revoked, thus revealing the harsh reality that he would no longer have any access to heaven—no longer have access to stand and accuse the saints. What’s more is that it appears that with each successive casting forth of the dragon, his activity was severely limited. When the dragon was cast forth and cast out of heaven into the earth his activity and ability to accuse the brethren before the throne of God was abolished. When the adversary was bound, cast into the bottomless pit and sealed for one thousand years his activity and ability to deceive the nations and make war was limited and restricted. When the adversary was cast into the lake of fire all of his activity in heaven and on the earth was destroyed and abolished once and for all. This is absolutely necessary and vital for us to understand for with each successive casting forth and driving out of the adversary his activity within our lives is limited, restricted, or abolished all together.
WHEN THE ADVERSARY IS CAST FORTH OUT OF HEAVEN HIS ABILITY TO ACCUSE IS ABOLISHED! WHEN THE ADVERSARY IS CAST FORTH INTO THE BOTTOMLESS PIT HIS ABILITY TO DECEIVE AND MAKE WAR IS RESTRICTED! Oh dear brother, dear sister—please understand and pay close attention to this, for it will dramatically alter your perception of spiritual conflict and war. When the adversary is cast forth out of heaven within your life—cast forth and cast out of that unseen realm—his activity in the earth—his activity in the physical and natural realm will become more visible and manifest. When the dragon and his angels could no longer make war in heaven with Michael and his angels they immediately shifted their attention to making war in the earth with the saints and with Israel. True victory over the adversary may very well take place in different stages and in different areas of our life—perhaps beginning with accusation, or perhaps beginning with deception, or perhaps with something else altogether. The more I consider these particular chapters in the book of the Revelation of Jesus the more I can’t help but ask myself if I am truly willing for the adversary to be driven out and cast forth once and for all within our lives. The adversary was cast forth out of heaven and his ability to accuse was directly impacted, thus suggesting that when the adversary is driven forth from our lives in certain areas his activity is limited, restricted, or destroyed altogether. Are you truly willing to roll up the welcome mat to the adversary within your life once and for all? What welcome mat are you in desperate need of rolling up? Is it the welcome mat to accuse you? Or is it the welcome mat to deceive you? Or maybe it’s the welcome mat to sow seeds of bitterness and offense within your heart and mind? Perhaps it’s the welcome mat to addiction—addiction to drugs, addiction to alcohol, addiction to pornography or the like. What is the welcome mat in your life that needs to be rolled up? What areas in your life do you need to drive out and cast forth the adversary once and for all?
The casting forth and driving out of the adversary within the book of the Revelation of Jesus is a prophetic picture of something equally as powerful—something which prepares us for that great and glorious day. As much as we may read the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ and anticipate the day when the adversary is once and for all driven out of heaven and even cast out of the earth and into the lake of fire, we must look forward to, anticipate and even pursue this reality within our own hearts and lives. We dare not, cannot and must not get so wrapped up, caught up and consumed with the final and ultimate destruction of the adversary that we neglect and fail to appropriate this reality within our own lives. There is a great danger to spend our time looking forward to and anticipating the ultimate demise and destruction of the adversary in general that we neglect to pursue this end within our own hearts, minds and lives. The adversary can and will be driven out of heaven and ultimately defeated in the earth, yet before and until that day happens we must pursue his being driven out and defeated within our own lives. WHEN THE ADVERSARY IS DRIVEN OUT AND DEFEATED! It’s important to note that the adversary wasn’t simply defeated in heaven, but he along with his angels were also driven out of heaven as well. When there is no longer any place for the adversary to wage war, and when there is no longer any way for the adversary to gain victory in a particular area, over a particular individual, over a particular group of people, over a particular church, and the like, there is ultimately only one option that is left—the casting out and casting down of the adversary. The adversary’s being driven forth out of heaven and into the earth—along with the driving out and casting forth of the unclean and evil spirits Jesus encountered—are a powerful prophetic picture of the ultimate, and I would dare say the only action that is left when both devil and demon alike no longer have any place within our hearts, within our minds, within our lives. “But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you? Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? And then he will spoil his house” (Matthew 12:28-29). “But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: but when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armor wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils” (Luke 11:20-22).
I am a firm believer and am utterly and completely convinced that Jesus’ driving and casting out of devils and demons alike is a powerful prophetic picture of an even greater reality that was yet to come. There was a particular instance when the legion of devils Jesus was driving out of the Gadarenes begged Jesus not to drive them out and cast them into the abyss. This they begged of Jesus because they knew what their ultimate demise and destruction was. There was another occasion when an unclean spirit spoke to Jesus and not only declared His identity, but also asked if He had come to destroy them before the time. The gospel accounts of the life and ministry of Jesus provide for us a certain authority and dominion that is exercised in the earth which both drives out and expels demons from those places they were permitted to dwell. When Jesus spoke the word and both devil and demon alike heard it they immediately came out of those whom they had previously occupied and dwelt. It is important that we recognize and understand this reality, for Jesus’ casting forth and driving out of demons and devils and unclean spirits bring us face to face with the very real concept that when the time comes for that which is unclean and impure to vacate our minds, our hearts, our lives, it must go by the Spirit of God and in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus. There were seventy whom Jesus sent out who were given authority to cast out devils and demons and who came back rejoicing that even demons and devils were subject to them in Jesus’ name. Moreover, the twelve disciples also partook of and experienced this reality and ministry as well. In the gospels we find demons and devils and unclean spirits alike being cast forth and driven out, and even in the book of Acts we find this same reality manifested. In the book of the Revelation of Jesus it is not merely devils and demons and unclean spirits who are cast out and driven out, but the very devil himself along with all his angels.
Oh dear brother, dear sister—the time has come for all that is unclean, all that is impure, all that is unholy to once and for all be driven forth and driven out of your life. There is coming a day when the dragon and his angels will no longer be able to wage war, much less occupy heaven and will be cast forth into the earth. There is coming a day when the dragon himself will be cast into the lake of fire along with death and hell, and all the unclean spirits, demons and devils alike. This reality can be experienced and manifested within our own lives if we will desire and pursue it with everything that is within us. The nation and people of Israel are and have been viewed as occupying territory illegally and unlawfully, and their adversaries and foes have been trying for years to thrust them forth from the land. There are Palestinians who right now are occupying territory which is sacred and holy, and which belongs to the children of Israel. There were enemies, adversaries, nations, foes and peoples which occupied the land of Canaan when the children of Israel prepared to enter, and there was a great need to evict them and to terminate their occupation from the midst of the land. It is time for us to evict and terminate the occupation of anything that is evil, unclean and impure from our lives, and to once and for all from our lives—unable to have any further access. We must view the dragon and his angels no longer finding any place in heaven as a powerful prophetic picture of the spiritual reality which must be manifested within our lives. The dragon’s ultimate and final defeat will not take place in heaven against the angelic host of heaven but when the saints of God are ruling and reigning in the earth—in the very place he sought to establish his authority so many years.
This is extremely important for it reveals one more crucial and vital truth concerning spiritual warfare—the adversary isn’t ultimately defeated until the saints and Son of God are ruling and reigning together upon the earth. This same principle is true within our own lives, for the adversary cannot ultimately and finally be defeated within our lives until we as the saints of God are ruling and reigning with Christ in the authority and dominion given Him by the Father, and through the Spirit given and made available unto us. The adversary was cast out of heaven when he and his angels could not prevail, and when their place was no longer found in heaven. The adversary was defeated on the earth after he had been imprisoned for one thousand years and while the saints of God were ruling and reigning with Christ upon the earth. Do you want to see the adversary completely and totally defeated within your life? It is only made possible when you and Christ are reigning upon the earth and when the authority and government of the kingdom is manifested within your life. Once more, the dragon was defeated in heaven when he was unable to prevail in battle, but he was defeated on the earth when the saints of God were ruling and reigning with Christ upon the earth. In other words, it is the reign of Christ that is the ultimate factor in the adversary’s greatest and ultimate defeat. When the reign of Christ is established within certain areas of your life, the adversary no longer any access or authority, and therefore stands utterly and completely defeated. Do you want to know the true secret and key to victory in spiritual conflict and warfare? The true secret and key to victory is Christ ruling and reigning, and the government and authority of the kingdom being established and executed. The single greatest way to resist the adversary is through the reign of Christ within our lives—the exercising and executing of the government and kingdom of God—which is why the apostle Peter first instructed us to submit ourselves to God. There can be no true resistance of the devil unless there is first a submission to the government, the authority and the kingdom of God. Learn and recognize this well, for until and unless you are willing to submit to God before and above everything else, your resistance of the devil will be futile at best. Learn to submit before you can truly learn how to resist, for the latter is dependent on the former. The Lord of hosts can never and will never entrust His authority to those who aren’t first willing to learn and walk in submission to His authority and government in the earth. BEFORE YOU RESIST YOU MUST SUBMIT! THE DEGREE TO WHICH YOU SUBMIT IS THE DEGREE TO WHICH YOU WILL ABLE TO RESIST! IF YOUR SUBMISSION IS SMALL, YOUR RESISTANCE WILL THEREFORE ALSO BE SMALL!
You’ve got your best man on the front side
You always show your best side
And evil’s always on the other side
You say this is your strategy
But son I hope you take it from me
You look just like your enemy
You’re full of pride
We better trash our idols if we want to be
In the army of the Lord
And the greatest idol is you and me
We better get on the threshing floor
When will we learn that God’s strategy
Is giving glory to the Lord?
We better trash our idols if we want to be
In the army of the Lord
Star how beautiful you shine
You shine more beautiful than mine
You shine from sea to shining sea
World-wide is your strategy
But shinning star I hope you see
If the whole wide world is staring straight at you
They can’t see me
